Beaulieu Abbey! Founded in 1203/4 by the Cistercian Order, on land gifted by King John. Local legend tells us that King John gifted the land to the monks after a nightmarish dream that he was beaten by a group of Cistercians and woke up still feeling the bruises…more on that and where truth meets legend another time! For now…figures, smells, sights have all been reported here. It’s allegedly one of the most haunted sites in The New Forest…and it’s one of my favourite to visit! Thanks @beaulieu_u

Old Mellifont Abbey was the first Cistercian abbey in Ireland, known to the Cistercians in Ireland as the ‘Mother House’, a base from which the Cistercian community expanded, adding more and more institutions (known as ‘daughter houses’) across Ireland.
