Sloths spend most of their time hanging upside down in the treetops of Central and South America. Their long limbs and curved claws help them grip tightly onto branches. Sloths have slow metabolisms and need to be efficient with their energy use, which is why they tend to move slowly. We hope you can take some time this summer to hang with our two-toed sloth in the Children’s Zoo. | Bronx Zoo

It’s a sloth FIGHT 🥊 turn the sound up and watch until the end! This video shows two male sloths having the sloth version of a punch up. Sloths are usually very peaceful creatures, but if there is a female nearby looking for a mate - all hell breaks loose. Male sloths will fight, and the aim of a sloth fight is to knock your opponent out of the tee (seriously - watch until the end)! The high pitched squeal is made by the ‘losing’ sloth as a sign of defeat, and it might be the most heartbreaking

Although you may have heard sloths be called two-toed and three-toed sloths however this is actually not anatomically correct. As both sloths possess three ‘toes’ on their hind limbs and the difference actually lies in their ‘fingers’. Therefore three-fingered and two-fingered is more analogically correct. There are now many scientific publications that recognise this as the correct terminology for these animals. 🦥 | The Sloth Conservation Foundation

We find we are very often asked about the differnce between calling sloths - two-toed and three-toed VS Two-fingered and Three-fingered. Referring to their fingers makes much more sense anatomically. We believe that the use of ‘toes’ came from the translation from Spanish to English. • • • • #Wildlife #Sloths #SlothFacts #SlothLife #AnimalFacts #SlothLover | The Sloth Conservation Foundation
