When Disney-MGM Studios opened in 1989, one of its premiere attractions was the Backlot Tour. The experience took guests behind the scenes of movie magic, from a tram ride through Catastrophe Canyon and past residential streets used in film and television, to a walking tour showcasing how special effects were created. When the Disney-MGM Studios opened in 1989, the park had a working Animation Studio. Guest could tour the facility and learn how animated films were made. The studio closed in 2004, but many Disney films were worked on at the park, including The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, The Roger Rabbit shorts, and Mulan.
