Crown Princess Martha and Prince Olav did have quite an extensive tour of America in 1939 after being formally invited by FDR in 1938. While Eliza Forbes was based off of a real person, and FDR warned Martha of her as a potential threat, the kidnapping scene as seen in episode 7 did not occur. The aim for the writers was to demonstrate "...the constant security risk Martha and the children lived under.” says historian and co-writer Linda May Kallestein.
