May 26, 2022 · Well, as we explained it – Death Eaters cannot actually fly. Their leader, Lord Voldemort, learned the trick and so did Severus Snape, but no other Death Eater is skilled enough to fly without the use of a broom or some other magical object.

Sep 25, 2014 · In the movies, the Death Eaters leave a smoky trail behind them as they fly. As the Order arrive in the Ministry of Magic in Order of the Phoenix, they leave a silvery trail behind them. In the books, there’s no mention of how they’re doing this.

Many of the Death Eaters during the film version of the Battle of the Seven Potters also were using broomsticks, despite seemingly all of them demonstrating the ability in flying in smoke, as well as demonstrating being able to use magic while flying.

In OotP and also in later movies Death Eaters (and members of the Order) are shown to literally fly through the air whilst still being able to shoot spells and grab other people, which would not be possible if they were Apparating.

Oct 21, 2023 · They made death eaters be able to turn into black smoke and the good guys turn into white smoke/light. In the books the only people (that we know of) who can fly unaided are Voldy and Snape. The real answer is that they are not meant to be flying. They are meant to be apparating and that’s what they decided that looks like.

Nov 18, 2016 · The Death Eaters' flying (with black smoke trail) is not canonical (except Snape), as they apparate in the books, and the characters never discuss the details of this smoke-trail flying in the movies, so we don't and can't know how exactly they are able to cast spells mid-flight.
