The father of NYPD Det. Didarul Islam, who was killed in last week's Midtown Manhattan office shooting spoke out Tuesday for the first time since his son's death.

Slain Police Officer Didarul Islam, in a brief essay while at the Police Academy, said he wanted to join the NYPD because they protected New Yorkers, and “I got inspired by their work.”
