PITTSBURGH — Adam Ottavino’s reunion with the Yankees was a short one. The Yankees designated the veteran reliever for assignment on Friday to make room for Devin Williams returning from the paternity list ahead of their series against the Pirates.
Despite a good end to the series to avoid being swept, the New York Yankees were unable to win their matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
It is not surprising to see a once-dominant arm like Ottavino out on the free-agent market. Ottavino, 39, has struggled a bit over the last several seasons, including two seasons where his ERA was up above a four (2021, 2024).
