A deadly Legionnaires' disease outbreak in New York City has set health and community leaders on a campaign to educate the public on ways to prevent the bacteria from growing and spreading.

An outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease in New York City has killed three people and sickened more than six dozen since late July. This type of pneumonia is caused by the bacteria Legionella, which grows in warm water.

Three people have died, and 83 cases of Legionnaires’ disease have been reported in Central Harlem since July 25.
