In the one week since a water main break flooded more than 400 homes in southwest Detroit, many residents are still struggling to figure out what to do next.

Nearby roads — which at least one neighbor said flooded again Tuesday morning but officials said was a brief part of the response work — were relatively clear except for mud, water, and salt. Then there was the massive hole filled to the brim with brown water at Rowan and Beard streets.

It's been one week since the devastating water main break caused serious flooding in a Southwest Detroit neighborhood. Nearly 400 homes were impacted by the flooding that displaced hundreds of people, and cleanup efforts are still underway . Homeowners are still digging their cars out of ice and mud and clearing out basements of debris.

The affected area has just under 400 homes, and so far officials believe about 200 need to be restored, Duggan said. Officials from the city and the Great Lakes Water Authority have promised to pay for damages and restoration for what Duggan called the "failure" of the water system.
