The top-ranked golfer in the world cruised to a four-shot win at the British Open at Royal Portrush to claim his first ever Claret Jug and a fourth career major championship. As a result, that sent him back to the United States with a $3.1 million check.

Scottie Scheffler shaped spectacular shots, calmly caressing rugged Royal Portrush for a final round 3-under 68 on Sunday to win his first British Open title.

One hour into the final round, his lead already was seven shots and no one got closer than four the rest of the way at Royal Portrush.

So, this was weird: Rory McIlroy, playing his second shot from the rough on the 11th at Royal Portrush in Round 3 of the British Open, somehow managed to unearth another ball in mid-swing. The second ball was apparently embedded in the ground a few inches ahead of McIlroy's ball, and popped into the air as McIlroy's shot flew greenward.
