Chipmaking giants Nvidia and AMD will reportedly have to pay the U.S. government a 15% cut on the revenue generated from AI chip sales to China.

Nvidia and its smaller rival Advanced Micro Devices have both agreed to remit 15% of the revenue they generated from AI chip sales in China to the Trump administration, The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The Financial Times first reported on this “highly unusual” arrangement that is part of reopening the gate for Nvidia and AMD to sell previous-gen AI chips to companies in China: > The US official said Nvidia agreed to share 15 per cent of the revenues from H20 chip sales in China and AMD will provide the same percentage from MI308 chip revenues.
