Here is a look at this week’s High School on SI Top 10 Iowa high school girls basketball rankings by class for the week of Jan. 13: 1. Johnston (11-0) Previous rank: 1 Convincing wins over Waukee and Southeast Polk keep the Dragons moving right along.

Even in many places where girls’ basketball survives, it is struggling. Don Bosco is playing varsity basketball with an eight-player roster. Six of the eight are either freshmen or sophomores so there is no freshmen or JV team. Clarksville has a nine-player roster with three seniors. At most, there will only be six returning players’ next season.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union will release girls’ basketball postseason pairings later this month. In the meantime, here is the first draft of The Gazette’s mock pairings. Teams were seeded primarily by the most recent IGHSAU rankings, with a couple of minor tweaks, and BC Moore computer ratings.
