Toyota Opening Experimental Futuristic City This Fall
The city was built in Shizuoka, Japan, on the former site of subsidiary Toyota Motor East Japan Higashi-Fuji's (TMEJ’s) plant. TMEJ was founded in July 2012 when Central Motors, Kanto Auto Works and Toyota Motors Tohoku merged to make compact cars. The plant went offline at the end of 2020 as demand for small vehicles waned.

Toyota's smart city ready for first residents by fall 2025
Called the Toyota Woven City, the first phase of construction is now complete, and the first residents will be able to move in during the fall, Toyota's chairman, Akio Toyoda, announced on Tuesday during 2025 CES currently underway in Las Vegas.
Toyota’s ‘Woven City’ Is Coming Together
Beginning in fall 2025, 100 residents known as “weavers” will move to the city, with that number expected to expand to 360 during phase one. Eventually, Toyota says, up to 2,000 people will reside in the city. They will primarily be employees of Toyota or Toyota’s Woven by Toyota mobility tech company.
