Indonesian officials say about 140 weak and hungry Rohingya Muslims, mostly women and children, are on a wooden boat anchored about 1 mile off the coast of Indonesia’s northernmost province of Aceh, and local residents refused to allow them onto land.

The United Nations refugee agency has appealed to Indonesia's government to rescue a boat languishing off its western coast packed with more than 100 Rohingya refugees including women and children.

A boat carrying about 100 Rohingya refugees has been left stranded off the coast of north-western Indonesia, with at least one person dead as immigration authorities in Aceh province decide whether to allow the group to come ashore.
