According to Fairlead Strategies founder Katie Stockton, the recent weakness in the stock market flashed a technical "sell" signal.

U.S. stocks are opening lower as a strong year for the market looks set to end on a sour note. The S&P 500 was down 1.3% early Monday. With just two days left in 2024, the benchmark index still on track for its second straight yearly gain of more than 20%.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 1.58% while the S&P 500 lost 1.12%. The Dow Jones shed 333 points to end the day.
