The State Department is firing more than 1,300 people on Friday as part of a dramatic overhaul of the agency, according to an internal notice seen by CNN.

The news network revealed almost 50,000 job cuts have been made in the US, with a huge percentage coming via Government focused cuts including to the DOGE initiative fronted by Elon Musk

CNN dropped a bombshell about layoffs under Donald Trump, revealing that in June, U.S. employers reported slashing 47,999 jobs. This figure represents a significant 49% decrease from May and a slight 2% reduction compared to last June.

Layoffs may not be mounting, but it’s getting harder to find a job in a labor market where hiring is “anemic” as tariff-driven economic uncertainty has put a chill on some employers.
