The former Singapore minister pleaded guilty last year to four charges under Section 165 of the Penal Code for receiving valuables from individuals in an official capacity

Iswaran began his 12-month jail term on Oct 7, 2024. Lawyers confirmed with CNA that in their experience, offenders become eligible for home detention after serving around one-third of their sentence.

Iswaran was the first former cabinet member to be jailed in Singapore after a high-profile trial that gripped the wealthy city state, which is famous for its clean governance. He will serve the remaining eight months of his one-year sentence at home under certain conditions,

Iswaran began his 12-month jail term from October after pleading guilty to obtaining valuable items from tycoon Ong Beng Seng.
