SEOUL, Feb 6 (Reuters) - North Korea has opened its national winter games, state media reported, as athletes from the reclusive state sit out the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics after failing to secure qualification spots.

With the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy only days away, South Korea on Thursday vowed to make its new winter sports history next month, aiming for a top 10 medal finish.

The South Korean delegation will enter the stadium as the 22nd out of 92 nations during the opening ceremony of the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, scheduled for 4 a.m. on the 7th (Korean time). The relatively early entry order was determined by the Italian alphabetical sequence of participating countries.
