Four major candidates are vying for votes in the Minneapolis mayoral election. Mayor Jacob Frey, state Sen. Omar Fateh, DeWayne Davis and Jazz Hampton are all hoping to emerge victorious on Tuesday, Election Day. All four are Democrats.

Two seats are up for grabs Tuesday, one in the Woodbury area, the other a more rural Wright County seat. If Democrats win both races, it would widen their advantage in the chamber. A sweep for Republicans would put them back in the majority.

Any eligible voter in Minneapolis may participate in the mayoral general election. Eligible voters in state Senate districts 29 and 47 may participate in the special elections in their district.

Demuth, a small business owner from Cold Spring, served as a school board member for over a decade before being elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2018. She became House Speaker in February, making history as both the first Black lawmaker and the first Republican woman to hold the position.
