Gov. Gavin Newsom faces what may be his greatest political test and leadership challenge. He planned to greet President Trump upon his arrival in Southern California on Friday.

President Trump landed in Los Angeles Friday afternoon to tour damage from the devastating Palisades Fire, one of two deadly wildfires fires this month, greeting Gov. Gavin Newsom who was waiting at the bottom of the steps to Air Force One.

Trump and Newsom set aside their usual bitterness and say they will figure out how to work together on the region’s recovery.

California passed two bills to expedite LA wildfire recovery funds as part of an extended special session called by Gov. Gavin Newsom in response to Palisades and Eaton fires.

Gov. Gavin Newsom said firefighters from Mexico were en route to help fight the Eaton Fire. The Eaton Fire is one of several still burning and devastating the Los Angeles area. The fire was first reported Tuesday, Jan. 7, near Altadena and Midwick drives.

Rain and cooler temperatures will bring relief to Southern California this weekend, after a prolonged stretch of dry, breezy weather that allowed wildfires to thrive.

California will spend $2.5 billion to help the Los Angeles area recover from recent deadly wildfires under a relief package signed Thursday by Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom.

This isn’t the first time Trump has come to survey a fire-ravaged California. He was critical of the state then, as he is now.

We’ll withhold judgment about the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency until we see some action.

The Palisades and Eaton wildfires also continue burning in the Los Angeles area, leaving parts of Southern California with devastating fire damage.
