Dame Joan Plowright took a playful swipe at friend and fellow actor Dame Judi Dench in a clip from Tea with the Dames. The video resurfaced following the announcement that the award-winning actor and widow of Lord Laurence Olivier died at the age of 95.

Plowright brought stage and screen characters to vibrant life for more than six decades in such works as A Taste of Honey, Tea with Mussolini and Enchanted April.

LONDON -- Award-winning British actor Joan Plowright, who was one half of a theatrical power couple after marrying Laurence Olivier, has died. She was 95. In a statement Friday, her family said Plowright died the previous day at Denville Hall, a retirement home for actors in southern England, surrounded by her loved ones.

Her family said: "It is with great sadness that the family of Dame Joan Plowright, the Lady Olivier, inform you that she passed away peacefully on January 16 2025 surrounded by her family at Denville Hall aged 95. "She enjoyed a long and illustrious career across theatre, film and TV over seven decades until blindness made her retire.

Plowright may well be best remembered for being Laurence Olivier's wife, but she was also one of the leading actors of her generation.
