James Wood singled to drive in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and the Washington Nationals rallied past the New York Mets 5-4 on Friday night, snapping New York's seven-game winning streak.

The Mets had Nationals starter Jake Irvin on the ropes in the top of the fourth inning, but a controversial triple play ended the threat.

The New York Mets own baseball's best record at 18-7 thanks to contributions from a variety of players, headlined by star first baseman Pete Alonso. The 30-year-old leads the team with a .341 batting average, six homers, 26 RBI, a .440 OBP, and 31 hits. His 1.122 OPS is third in MLB.
