If you’re an NBA general manager who wants to sign a superstar, it’s going to cost you. After the Dallas Mavericks sent franchise centerpiece Luka Doncic to Los Angeles late Saturday, questions started circulating almost immediately about whether the price the Lakers paid wasn’t high enough.

Even while preparing for Super Bowl 59, Patrick Mahomes – an avowed Mavericks fan – couldn't help but be shocked by the Luka Doncic trade.

But Dallas's stunning about-face with its franchise player may have hit those closest to home harder than anyone. Mavericks fans, shocked and hurt by the trade, came out in droves to protest the deal outside of American Airlines Arena before Sunday's hockey game between the Dallas Stars and Columbus Blue Jackets.
