Zohran Mamdani has been elected mayor of New York City, defeating former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who ran as an independent, and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa.
As Zohran Mamdani took the stage for his victory speech Tuesday night, the staff at Kabab King paused to listen. They recorded his speech and listened to his every word. The dining cutlery that was clanking away just moments before fell silent.
As of 6 p.m., about 1.85 million people, including early and mail-in voters, had cast ballots in the hotly contested race among Zohran Mamdani, Andrew M. Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa. Polls close at 9 p.m.
Donald Trump has threatened to withhold funding from New York if Zohran Mamdani is elected as the city’s next mayor in Tuesday’s election.
