South Korea has sentenced impeached former president Yoon Suk Yeol to five years’ imprisonment, in the first of a series of cases related to his failed attempt to impose martial law.

A court handed down five years in prison to former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who is facing multiple trials stemming from his short-lived imposition of martial law.

President Yoon Suk Yeol was impeached, arrested and dismissed as president after his short-lived imposition of martial law in December 2024 triggered huge public protests calling for his ouster.
