The University of Virginia is returning to normal after an active attacker incident prompted a shelter-in-place order across its campus Thursday evening.

UVA was placed under a shelter in place earlier Tuesday afternoon, due to a potential armed suspect in the area.

UVA police say the suspect, Nyheem Hill, fled following an off-campus traffic stop near Ivy Road. The order was lifted around 1:40 p.m.

The University of Virginia Police Department is warning of an armed “active attacker” on the Grounds. Just before 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, an emergency alert was sent to students; school officials confirmed there was a white man armed with a knife in the area of 100 Emmet Street across from Alumni Hall.
