Steve Sidwell, who was a defensive coordinator for four teams in a 21-year NFL career, died Wednesday night, the New Orleans Saints announced. He was 78.

Steve Sidwell had just climbed into his car after finishing training at Reading when he received a call from his then agent Eric Walters. “Are you sitting down?” asked Walters.

Sidwell was inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame in 2004 and also served as a defensive coordinator for the Houston Oilers (1995-96), New England Patriots (1997-99) and Seattle Seahawks (2000-02).
