Storm Ashley has battered parts of the country with hurricane-force winds and torrential rain as more flights and trains are cancelled. As the storm passed over the Scottish Highlands on Sunday night,

The clean-up is taking place after Storm Ashley brought high winds and flood alerts to the Western Isles and northern Scotland on Sunday. Ferries, flights and trains were disrupted during amber and yellow weather warnings across parts of the UK, with winds of up to 80mph recorded.

Traffic Scotland confirmed that the A95 at Ballindalloch remained closed due to fallen trees on the carriageway at 6.25am.

Winds of up to 50/60mph for the far north east of Scotland and the Orkney and Shetland isles was forecast as the storm left the UK. There are currently no weather warnings in place across the UK after the storm moved across northern Scotland and out into the North Sea.

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning before Storm Ashley hits the north-west of Scotland on Sunday. A yellow warning has been issued for all of Scotland and Northern Ireland, and parts of Wales and north-west England. The amber warning will be in force from 9am on Sunday until midnight, and the yellow alert between 3am and midnight.

Exeter is projected to be the warmest spot at 17C on Tuesday, while London, Brighton, Bristol, Bournemouth, and Southampton will all experience similar conditions. The warmer weather comes after rain and wind alerts in the wake of Storm Ashley causing travel chaos across the country over the weekend.
