The latest polls show philanthropist Daniel Lurie gaining ground in recent weeks in the San Francisco mayor's race.

Daniel Lurie's campaign and an independent committee backing him have raised more than $15 million. Of that, about $8 million came from Lurie himself.

A pedestrian was killed Tuesday near the campus of UCSF, police said. The man was struck about 8:45 a.m. near Parnassus Avenue and Stanyan Street, police said. Paramedics tried to save him, but he was declared dead on scene.
