The state is mourning a Wethersfield firefighter who died on Tuesday while responding to a massive brush fire that has burned more than 125 acres in Berlin and Meriden. Officials said on Wednesday morning that it could take a month to extinguish the fire.

Sharkevich was a retired firefighter with the Hartford Fire Department who was still volunteering with the Wethersfield department. Police say a preliminary investigation determined the UTV was operating on a steep, rocky incline when it rolled over onto Sharkevich, causing fatal injuries.
