California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom delivered a victory speech after voters were projected to approve Proposition 50 — a redistricting measure that could net Democrats five House seats.

Proposition 50, which is being pushed hard by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), would pause the use of maps drawn by the nonpartisan California Citizens Redistricting Commission until 2031, and allow for new maps to be used that would help secure five additional Democratic seats in Congress. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

Of California’s 52 congressional districts, nine are held by Republicans. Prop 50 aims to shake this up, and in some cases, rather dramatically.
