The Mets designated pitcher Paul Blackburn for assignment late Friday, according to a source, likely ending the right-hander’s rocky tenure with the club. The move -- which has yet to be confirmed by the team -- removes Blackburn from the club’s 40-man roster,

Paul Blackburn said he just wanted to pitch “somewhere” when he was reinstated from the injured list Thursday. It seemed pretty clear then that the “somewhere” might not be in Flushing.

Ahead of his big league debut this afternoon against the Mariners, the Mets promoted Nolan McLean from Triple-A Syracuse. In a corresponding move, Paul Blackburn was designated for assignment. Blackburn will have to pass through waivers to remain in the Mets organization.
