Thousands of "No Kings Day" protests are set to be held throughout the country on Saturday to protest the Trump administration.
The largely peaceful protests during the "No Kings Day" demonstration in downtown Los Angeles took an intense turn in the afternoon. Police ordered the crowd to disperse at about 4:15 p.m. PDT near Alameda Street and Temple Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department's Central Division.
On the same day Melissa Hortman and her husband were murdered in a "politically-motivated" assassination, more "politically-motivated" violence occurred at peaceful protests across the country.
The Houston demonstration is one of several planned in the region throughout the day and is expected to draw thousands of protesters.
City leaders are addressing concerns after Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced the deployment of the National Guard to San Antonio ahead of the "No Kings Day" protest scheduled for this weekend. San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg said the city received no "advance warning" of the National Guard from Abbott.
Denver police say they have made 17 protest-related arrests in total Saturday after the peaceful "No Kings" event ended and unaffiliated marchers took to Denver's streets.
