Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United States from February 12 to 13 and hold talks with President Donald Trump, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said on Friday.

India will continue to bring down tariffs and phase out additional levies on imports as domestic manufacturing improves, a top finance ministry official said, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US.

AMRITSAR, India (Reuters) - Indian opposition lawmakers questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government and demanded a discussion in parliament on Thursday over what they said was ill-treatment of 104 Indian immigrants deported by the U.S.

It took Daler Singh six months and $45,000 to reach the United States last month without paperwork. Within three weeks of his arrival, he was sent back to his native India on a military plane, his hands and legs cuffed throughout the journey.

The U.S. has deported 104 Indian migrants, sparking political controversy in India. External affairs minister S. Jaishankar met PM Modi to discuss the situation, while the opposition demands a discussion in Parliament.

Opposition lawmakers in India's parliament are protesting the US deportations of Indian immigrants. A US military plane carrying 104 Indian migrants-- deported as part of US President Donald Trump's immigration agenda-- landed in northern India's Punjab State on Wednesday.

The deported Indians alleged that their hands and legs were cuffed throughout the journey and they were unshackled only after landing at the Amritsar airport.
