By Jeff Horwitz Jan 27 (Reuters) - Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg approved allowing minors to access AI chatbot companions that safety staffers warned were capable of sexual interactions, according to internal Meta documents filed in a New Mexico state court case and made public Monday.

In Q4, the company is expected to spend $21.9 billion, up from $14.4 billion in the same quarter last year. Meta is expected to report earnings per share (EPS) of $8.16 on revenue of $58.4 billion, according to Bloomberg analyst consensus estimates. That would be an improvement on the $8.02 per share and $48.4 billion the company saw in Q4 2024.

Meta has struck a multiyear deal worth up to $6 billion to buy fiber-optic cable from Corning, a move aimed at advancing the expansion of its U.S. data-center network for artificial-intelligence systems.

Meta is scheduled to report its fourth-quarter results after the closing bell Wednesday, with traders anticipating a big move in the social media giant's stock.

And Meta isn’t the only company trying to convince the public to embrace the data center boom. The Financial Times reported this week that data center operators, including Digital Reality, QTS, and NTT Data, are planning a “lobbying blitz” to campaign in defense of new data centers in response to public backlash.
