The city of Antioch on Tuesday announced Joe Vigil is its new interim police chief, succeeding interim chief Brian Addington​, who is retiring.

Antioch appointed a new interim police chief Tuesday just days after it reached an agreement with the Department of Justice following an investigation into a racist texting scandal.

Capt. Joe Vigil had previously served as Antioch's interim police chief in 2023, and he replaces Brian Addington in the position.

Antioch has yet another acting police chief. Capt. Joe Vigil will be the third acting chief in less than a year and a half. Vigil has had this role before, from August 2023 to February 2024.
