Edey missed most of the NBA Summer League with injuries, but he played in all five of the Grizzlies' preseason games. He scored in double figures in three of those games. His best preseason performance came against the Pacers, when he had 23 points and nine rebounds. He played between 18 and 22 minutes in all five games.

Even with Pippen's new deal, the Grizzlies still have an open roster spot to start the season. That means general manager Zach Kleiman has some flexibility. He could sign one of the two-way players (Kawamura, Jay Huff and Cam Spencer) to a standard deal, or he could use it on a free-agent signing. That slot could also be useful in trades.

The Memphis Grizzlies had brutal injury luck last season. Without star point guard Ja Morant for all but nine games, the Grizzlies also lost several other key players to extended injury absences. This offseason has unfortunately not been much better for the Grizzlies.
