Mexico has sued Google after it changed the label for the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America on its maps platform to match U.S. President Donald Trump's executive order.

Mexico is suing Google for ignoring repeated requests not to call the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America on Google Maps for US users, President Claudia Sheinbaum says. She did not say where the lawsuit had been filed. Google did not respond to the BBC's request for comment.

President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico on Friday morning said her government had sued Google over the company’s decision to label the Gulf of Mexico as ‘Gulf of America’ — a spat going back to February, when the Trump administration issued an executive order to rename the gulf.
