However, when they face UConn, Michigan certainly can prove that they are worthy of voters’ high regard. Big 12 teams moved up a combined 13 spots in the AP poll, while West Virginia debuted at No. 23. No conference member slid from their prior spot, either.
Two weeks into the women's college basketball season and some things look clear, including the top five in the AP poll.
The new AP Top 25 women's college basketball poll is out. The Michigan Wolverines, up eight spots, and the TCU Horned Frogs, up seven, both vaulted into the top 10, The West Virginia Mountaineers moved into the poll this week after defeating the then-No. 15 Duke Blue Devils on Friday. Duke fell out of the Top 25.
One of the biggest winners of last week was Louisville. The Cardinals jumped six spots to No. 6 after defeating in-state rival Kentucky 96-88 behind the brilliance of star freshman Mikel Brown Jr. The former five-star recruit scored a team-high 29 points in the win over the Wildcats. Kentucky dropped three spots to No. 12 after the loss.
Texas A&M maintained its standing in the top three after a comeback win over South Carolina, while Texas Tech moved up two spots to No. 6. Oklahoma is also in the top 10 after its upset of Alabama. Meanwhile, Texas fell to No. 17 after its stumble on the road at Georgia.
