An Air India Boeing 787, the same kind of plane that crashed 4 days earlier, was forced to turn around after a midair "technical issue," the airline says.

The incident follows the Air India crash in Ahmedabad when a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed minutes after taking off, killing 241 people onboard.

Sumeet Sabharwal, who the Indian government has said had 8,200 flying hours of experience and was also an Air India instructor, was the commanding pilot of flight AI171. His co-pilot was Clive Kunder who had 1,100 hours of experience. Sabharwal's funeral took place in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Air India and Boeing are in the midst of significant turnarounds, but knowing the cause of the crash of Flight 171 will take a lengthy investigation.

Officials say at least 270 bodies have been recovered, while the lone surviving passenger is still under observation for some of his injuries.
